Prescribing and Administration e-Learning

The Prescribing and Administration e-Learning promotes good practice and the appropriate application of standards in the use of medication charts for prescribing and recording the administration of medicines within acute and mental health hospital environments.

The e-learning raises awareness of the risk of medication errors within the prescribing process; describes the inpatient medication chart (drug chart) and the requirements and correct completion of each section of the chart (patient details, allergy information, once only, as required, regular medication, variable dose, infusions, etc…); the appropriate use of prescribing standards and the essential administration standards. The package illustrates the completion of the medication record for both prescribers and for nurses administering medication. Examples of poor practice and common errors are illustrated along with the potential consequences.
