Safer Prescribing e-Learning

The Safer Prescribing e-Learning promotes good practice and the appropriate application of standards in prescribing medicines within acute and mental health hospital environments.

The e-learning raises awareness of the risk of medication errors within the prescribing process, introduces the inpatient medication chart (drug chart) and the use of supplementary prescription charts; describes the appropriate use of prescribing standards and illustrates the appropriate completion of prescriptions for regular medication, as required medicines and once only doses. The package illustrates the documentation of patient allergies, MHA status (mental health version) and good practice in changing and cancelling prescriptions and transcribing medication records.

The full version of the package also details the risk factors and common medication errors associated with drugs that carry a high risk of significant patients harm and appropriate prescribing precautions to reduce those risks.
